Woodfashioners Is Now A Carbon Neutral Company - And We Are Firmly Committed To Achieving Net Zero!

After crunching all of the numbers, and there were a lot of them, we are proud to announce that woodfashioners is now a carbon neutral company.

What does that mean?

It means we have taken the time to calculate all the different ways in which our company creates greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions - the stuff that contributes to climate change.

We have also calculated the ways in which we have helped to lock those GHG emissions away. That’s right, wood is one of the most sustainable materials around, and making bespoke fitted furniture out of responsibly sourced wood, including recycled wood, actually helps to reduce the amount of carbon in the atmosphere.

So after running all of the calculations using internationally recognised methodologies (thankfully one of our directors was a sustainability consultant in a previous life), here are the results:

Woodfashioners GHG Emissions | Sustainable Events | Exhibitons

The infographic above shows all of the ways in which we have been responsible for the emission and storage of carbon in 2021. The net impact was the creation of 2.2 tonnes of GHG emissions during the year.

To offset this impact and become a carbon neutral company, we have purchased officially recognised carbon credits from Gold Standard. These credits allow us to invest in emissions reduction projects around the world, and in our case we contributed to the reforestation of an area in Panama.

Although we are proud to be a carbon neutral company, we recognise that more needs to be done beyond planting a few trees, especially with the push to make events and exhibitions more sustainable. That is why we have joined The SME Climate Hub and made a public commitment to achieve Net Zero as part of the United Nations Race to Zero campaign.

The SME Climate Commitment

Recognising that climate change poses a threat to the economy, nature and society-at-large, our company commits to take action immediately in order to:

  1. Halve our greenhouse gas emissions before 2030

  2. Achieve net zero emissions before 2040

  3. Disclose our progress on a yearly basis

Achieving Net Zero will not be easy, especially as we turn our focus back to building bespoke exhibition stands, events and activations, but we are committed to working together with our customers and suppliers to achieve Net Zero. And we will report on our progress every year - the good, the bad and the ugly!

That’s all for now.
